Winter & Associates Welcomes Fifth Generation to Firm
Winter & Associates, an independent financial services firm and a St. Paul fixture with 116 years of continuous operation, has welcomed fifth-generation family member Shelby Tietel to the firm as associate wealth advisor. Tietel is the daughter of Financial Advisor, President and Chief Compliance Officer Nicole Winter Tietel.
“It’s an honor and an accomplishment to be one of the 3% of all U.S.-based family businesses operating at the fourth-generation level and beyond,” Winter Tietel said. “When my great-grandfather, A.O. Ellison, started the business in 1908, he likely was unaware what an enduring legacy he would create.”
Tietel’s career started in Boston with Wayfair, where she did marketing data analytics, investigating trends and providing recommendations to improve the marketing program. In 2022, after moving back to Minneapolis, Tietel worked for Ovative Group as a manager of measurement solutions. Her role focused on where to invest clients’ marketing dollars to maximize their returns, creating detailed annual forecasts of key business metrics, and building strategic plans for how to measure the impact of marketing on the clients’ business.
“My strongest performance is at the intersection of analytical, creative and personable – helping to take data and translate it into intentional strategic decisions,” Tietel said. “I’m excited to use those skills at Winter & Associates to carry on the legacy of the family.”
Winter & Associates became a female-owned firm in 1998 when Winter Tietel took over the business. Over the decades since the firm’s inception, Winter & Associates has evolved from insurance sales to financial advising and wealth management.
Tietel earned a bachelor’s degree in management, magna cum laude, from Boston College with concentrations in marketing and business analytics.
